When you were street 16

When you were street 16

It was probably the most momentous news story in the history of the state.

When a band of rebels and visionaries rose up against the British Empire on Easter Monday 1916 the world took notice.

The spark lit by the bloody sacrifice of the leaders would become a flame of freedom that led to the birth of a nation.

The Sunday World was not around 100 years ago when Irish newspapers of the time came out against the Rising and deemed it a failure.

So as the centenary dawns this Easter we wondered how it might have been recorded in the front pages of your favourite Sunday read.

Here (with tongue in cheek!) we’ve put together a compilation of front pages to tell the story of Easter week 1916 through the eyes of your Sunday World, the (Risen) People’s Paper.
