A FARMER whose cattle were shot by Army marksmen this week has close links to Ireland’s cross-border fuel smuggling trade and is facing a €1.7 million CAB bill.

A convicted fuel smuggler, John Hoey, had previously run an oil distribution company in Northern Ireland linked to the illicit cross-border trade.
