Two people hospitalised after fire breaks out in Limerick

Two people are recovering in hospital after they were rescued from a fire at an apartment.

A man and a woman were pulled from the Catherine Street property by fire officers attached to Limerick City and County fire service.

The blaze broke out shortly before 10pm last night, trapping the people in the bedroom.

Two units with an aerial ladder platform attended the scene and fire crews wearing breathing apparatus found a man and an unconscious woman in the apartment on the second floor.

The man and woman are being treated at University Hospital Limerick for the effects of smoke inhalation.

There are some reports that the fire may have been started deliberately.
