Tragedy struck a family when a mother attempted to swat away a bee from her sons in their stroller and lost control of it, causing the buggy to roll away from her and into a canal where they drowned.

The tragic incident occurred last Friday in Yuma, Arizona.

Alexis Keslar was taking a morning stroll with her 18-month-old twins, Eli and Silas, when a bee came close to them. Instinctively trying to protect them by swatting away the insect, she momentarily let go of the handle – but the stroller careered towards a steep embankment and plunged into the canal.

The shocked mother made desperate attempts to rescue the boys but the strong currents swept the boys away despite her frantic efforts.

The boys’ bodies were found almost 90 minutes later and they were pronounced dead at the scene.

Distraught family and friends are attempting to comfort the mother, with one saying: “No parent should ever have to lose a child – let alone both at the same time.”

A GoFundMe account has been set up to raise money for a memorial and medical costs for parents Alexis and Mark, and has raised an estimated $21,000 so far.
