A transatlantic flight was forced to make an emergency landing at Shannon airport this afternoon – having had to shut down one of its three of its engines.

The aircraft was en route to German from the US at the time, and the crew of United Parcel Service 213 reported that they were experiencing an emergency and needed to land urgently.

The cargo flight touched down at Shannon at around 4.30pm where it was met by emergency service vehicles.

The fire brigade and two HSE ambulances responded to the emergency.

There were six crew members on board.

An investigation is now taking place.
