Three Gardai have been stabbed in Clogherhead on Louth.

Gardaí have arrested a man in his 30s following the incident in Termonfeckin, Co Louth. 

At approximately 9am, detective Gardaí attached to Ardee Garda Station carried out a search at a house on foot of a drugs warrant. 

When Gardaí entered the house a struggle ensued with a male occupant. The man who answered the door had knives in his hands and set a pitbull on the officers. 

"Three Gardaí received injuries during the incident and required hospital treatment," a spokesperson told the Sunday World. 

"All three have since been released from Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital."

They all received tetanus shots at the hospital in Drogheda. 

The man in his 30s is being detained at Drogheda Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

The house remains sealed off and a detailed technical examination is being carried out, the spokesperson said.
