Seven people have been injured after a rollercoaster derailed at the M&D theme park in Motherwell, Scotland.

A number of people are believed to be trapped in the wreckage.

BBC News are reporting six ambulances and six fire engines to be attending the scene at M&D's theme park in North Lanarkshire.

It is understood a rollercoaster crashed off the rails.

The alarm was raised at 15.37 this afternoon.

A number of specialist officers are also at the scene at the park, which is being evacuated.

Eyewitnesses told the Mirror that around eight to 10 people were on board the rollercoaster carriage when it derailed, dropping some 30ft (10 meters) to the ground.

Images taken at the park in the aftermath of the incident show shocked patrons removing wreckage and pulling someone clear from the crashed ride.
