A 16-year-old Wicklow schoolboy was tragically killed when he fell over while running for a bus.

Dion Doyle was running after a bus in Greystones, Co Wicklow when he tripped on the road and fell head first on to the pavement.

The teen, from Season Park in Newtownmountkennedy, tragically passed away from his injuries on Monday evening.

Dion (pictured) was a member of Greystones United Football Club who played for the club’s U-17 Dublin District Schoolboys League team.

The football club posted an online tribute to the tragic youth last night, in which they described him as “a great footballer” who was popular with his team mates. “He will be sadly missed,” they added.

He was due back to school at Presentation College, Bray this week.

A candle-lit service was held in memory of Dion in his hometown last night, and he will be laid to rest at St Joseph’s Church in Newtownmountkennedy on Friday at 11am.
