Robber forces shop staff to remove safe at knifepoint

The PSNI have appealed for information after a robber forced staff of a premeses in Newcastle, County Down, to remove a safe from the shop at knifepoint.

The incident happened at around 8.25pm in the Central Promenade area of the seaside town.

Two staff members found the man in a private area of the premises.

He forced one hand over their mobile phone and money.

He then ordered one of the workers to carry a safe outside.

When the worker dropped the safe, the knife-wielding assailant fled on foot.

Detective Inspector Graham said: “I would appeal to anyone who saw this man or who knows anything about this incident to contact Downpatrick Police Station on the non emergency number 101. Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
