Proud Thomond fans honour a true giant of Irish rugby

Rugby fans and players have paid tributes to Irish legend Anthony Foley across the world this weekend.

Amateur clubs, youths and mini rugby sides all paid tribute with simple gestures and by holding a minute’s silence before games.

Munster players took to the field yesterday wearing shirts that bore the name ‘Axel’ on the crest to remember their friend and colleague.

Before kick-off the Munster Rugby Supporters Club choir led spectators in a moving rendition of the Fields of Athenry, the anthem associated with Munster Rugby.

Later, President Michael D Higgins paid a visit to the dressing room afterwards, to congratulate the team on their stunning victory and to express the nation’s sympathy on the loss of the great Axel Foley.
