A pipe bomb has been thrown into the garden of a house on Island Street in East Belfast.

Two men suspected of throwing the device are believed to have fled the scene on a motorbike.

The motorcycle was later recovered by police on Clandeboye Street off the Castlereagh Road.

An ATO team examined the device and declared it viable.

The police said they are also investigating whether another vehicle was involved in the attack.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "Police are also investigating whether a single vehicle road traffic collision on the Beersbridge Road shortly before 5am this morning involving a red coloured Honda Civic was also linked to the incident.

"Detective Chief Inspector Gary Reid is appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone with any information about the movements of a red Kawasaki motorcycle or the red Honda Civic to contact Detectives in Musgrave Police Station on the non-emergency number 101. Information can also be passed anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
