At a briefing in Dublin this morning, Gardai gave out more information in the bid to identify the baby found abandoned in a platic bag on Friday afternoon.

Replica images of the bag and a blanket were given to the media this morning in a bid to drum up some information from the public on the identity of the infant.

The baby was found by a passer-by in a secluded area just off the N7 near Rathcoole on Friday afternoon and despite over 48 hours of appeals, nobody has yet come forward with information about the baby.

The Gardai have confirmed that the newborn, who those caring for have named Maria, was only 36 hours old when found, is in a stable condition in the Coombe Hospital but they remain concerned about the health and well being of the mother.

The Gardai are keen to stress that they are not going to judge the mother, or pressure her into any decision, they just wish to speak to her to make sure she is okay.

Anyone with information regarding the mother and/or the newborn child are urged to contact Gardaí at Clondalkin on 01 6667600, The Garda Confidential Line or any Garda Station.

The man who found the baby on Friday issued an appeal for the mother to make herself known to the Gardai over the weekend.
