LAPD officers are once again under the microscope in the US after a video emerged of them shooting a black homeless man in broad daylight.

Department heads have launched an investigation after the incident in which the man – know to others on the street in ‘Skid Row’ where he has lived for the past few months as ‘Africa’ – is seen fighting with police officers before being wrestled to the ground.

The officers were at the scene responding to reports of a robbery yesterday at midday when the scuffle broke out. They can be seen grabbing the man and putting him on the ground before trying to restrain him with handcuffs.

Suddenly, several shots ring out to the shock of witnesses watching on. The man was later pronounced dead at hospital.

Although it is not completely clear in the video it appears that one of the officers shouts “he’s got my gun” before the shooting took place.

The LAPD have said a “very, very careful” and full investigation will take place into the incident.
