One woman has posted on a Facebook page set up for the victims of the Berkeley balcony tragedy to offer a house to any Irish families who need to stay in the area for free.

We simply can't imagine what the families of those killed and injured in the Berkeley balcony collapse are going through. The stress of travel that far from home is hard going at the best of times, let alone when a loved one is in hospital with serious injuries.

So at times like that a little bit of kindness from strangers can go a long way and one California woman has made a wonderful gesture.

On a Facebook page set up for victims of the tragedy, a woman called Niki Maguire-Rampe has posted this very generous offer.

I am willing to house any family here in the Oakland Hills who might need a place to stay near the hospitals. We have extra bedrooms and a large house, feel free to reach out to me.

As you can see, her thoughtful offer is proving very popular and if it helps one family in one small way over the next few days then she is a real star.
