Weather warnings are in place throughout Ireland today as temperatures plunged overnight.

Met Éireann has issued wind warning for Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo while a ‘status yellow’ snow and ice warning is in place across the country.

Top temperatures are expected to be between just 3 to 7 C.

Motorists are urged to take extra care when taking to the roads as Met Éireann warned of icy patches despite winds of up to 100 km per hour overnight.

Storm Gertrude left 10,000 premises without electricity yesterday as a result of high winds.
