Motorist killed in car crash in Laois

Gardaí in Mountmellick are investigating a fatal road traffic collision which occurred in the townland of Clonaghadoo, Mountmellick, Co. Laois this afternoon at approximately 12.30p.m.

A man, thought to be in his mid 1960s, suffered fatal injuries when the car he was driving was involved in a collision with another vehicle.

He was pronounced dead at scene.

His body has been taken to Midlands Regional Hospital, Portlaoise where a post mortem is to be arranged.

The female driver, in her late 20s, was removed to Tullamore Hospital and her injuries are believed not to be serious. 

The road is currently closed to facilitate Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

Local diversions are in place.
