Met Éireann issues Status Orange rainfall warning

Met Éireann has issued a Status Orange rainfall warning for counties Donegal, Galway, Mayo and Sligo.

Between 40 to 60mm of rain is expected but up to 80mm of rain is possible on hills and mountains during the day.

There are also Status Yellow rainfall warnings in place parts of the midlands, south and west.

Meanwhile, a number of homes across the country were left without power overnight as strong winds and rain swept across the country.

ESB Networks say it is working to restore power to around 1,400 homes in Carrickmines in Dublin.

There were also a number of minor outages reported in parts of Donegal, Offaly, Lough, Kildare, Cork and Wexford.

The heavy rain has led to flooding in parts of Co Donegal and motorists are being urged to drive with care.

The Ballymacool to New Mills road near Letterkenny is impassable.

A car is trapped in the floodwaters but no injuries have been reported.

In Co Sligo, there are reports of another vehicle stuck on the Ballintubber road near Dooney Wood, which is impassable.
