Men with hammers and baseball bats burgle house and beat occupants

Men armed with baseball bats and a sledgehammer have beaten two occupants of a house in Maghera, County Derry, during a burglary in the early hours of this morning.

The incident happened in the Oakvale Terrace area of Culnady, Maghera, just after 1am.

It was reported that three masked men used the weapons to assault a 24 year old man and 21 year old woman.

They were both taken to hospital with injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening.

Detective Inspector Will Tate said: "I would ask anyone with any information about this incident to contact detectives at Cookstown Police Station on the non emergency number 101.
