Man who found abandoned baby pleads for mother to come forward
The man who found a newborn baby in a black plastic bag in Dublin yesterday has appealed for the mother to come forward.
The Star spoke to the man who made the discovery and while he was still stunned by the chance find, his main thoughts were now for the mother of the baby.
"I know I saved this girl's life, but all I want now is for the mother to come forward," the man told The Star newspaper. "I'm still in shock at what happened. But it is important the mother comes forward and gets whatever helps she needs."
The man only spotted the infant after he pulled into the quiet area off the N7 so that he could take a quick toilet break.
According to the paper, the man heard the cries of the child and went to investigate, and when he realised it was a baby he called the Gardai and wrapped the baby in a coat.
Gardai are also appealing for the mother to come forward.
"Gardaí are concerned for the welfare of the mother of this child and are appealing for her to seek immediate medical treatment and to contact gardaí, who are anxious to reunite her with her baby," said Supt Brendan Connolly.
The child was taken to Tallaght Hospital after being found and is said to be in a stable condition.
