A man faces being jailed for life after he admitted murdering a 26-year-old woman in front of a young child.

Leighann Duffy was stabbed in the arm and neck at a home in Hatherley Road, Walthamstow, east London on 1 September last year.

She died in hospital two days later.

A six-year-old child also suffered minor injures in the attack, but did not need hospital treatment.

Lloyd Byfield, 48, of no fixed abode, admitted murder at a brief hearing at the Old Bailey.

The facts of the case were not read out by the prosecution and Judge Nicholas Cooke QC remanded Byfield in custody to be sentenced on Friday, April 10.

At the time of the murder, Detective Chief Inspector Glen Lloyd said police were investigating a motive but it was believed the victim knew her attacker.
