Man dead after being hit by lorry

A man has died after being struck by a lorry in the centre of Ballynahinch, Co Down.

The incident happened on Windmill Street shortly before 11am today.

The lorry drove off along Dromore street.

Police have issued an appeal as they suspect the driver of the lorry may not have realised they had hit anyone.

They described the vehicle as a  six-wheeled tipper lorry.

The cab had Miskelly Brothers Ltd written on the front, but it is no longer owned by the firm.

It is a blue/brown colour and the lorry may have been loaded with wither rubble or vegetables.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "Police believe the driver of the lorry may not be aware they were involved in the collision and are appealing for the driver or anyone with any information about the lorry to contact local Police on the non-emergency number 101."
