The brother of Gerry 'the Monk' Hutch has been shot dead in Dublin's north inner city tonight.

The shooting happened in the past hour at a house on Poplar Row in the Ballybough area.

Sources told the Sunday World the victim is Eddie Hutch Snr.

While it is unclear at this stage who carried out the attack it is likely to be retaliation for the murder of David Byrne at the Regency Hotel in Dublin on Friday.

The brazen shooting took place despite the fact extra armed gardai have been deployed to the street of Dublin to prevent further bloodshed.

The latest gun attack comes in the wake of Friday’s fatal shooting of criminal David Byrne .

The close associate of the Christy Kinahan mob was shot dead and two others were injured as two gunmen armed with AK-47s - and two others with handguns - opened fire in the Regency Hotel in Dublin.

Three of the men were dressed in SWAT team uniforms, the other was disguised as a woman.

The brazen shooting occurred as about 100 people, including several members of the Christy Kinahan crime syndicate, attended a weigh-in for a boxing event.

The hit is believed to be linked to the murder of criminal Gary Hutch, a nephew of Gerry 'The Monk' Hutch.
