Man arrested in relation to fatal car crash in Co Meath is released without charge

A man who was arrested in relation to a fatal car crash in Co Meath has been released without charge.

A file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) after Jillian Thornton (20), of Halpin’s Terrace, Drogheda, Co Louth, died when the car she was travelling in crashed into a second car.

She was a back seat passenger in the Mitsubishi Colt car, which collided with a Volkswagen Passat on the N2 near Duleek on Friday night.

Ms Thornton’s funeral will take place on Thursday morning.

Four others were injured in the incident.

Gardaí had confirmed that they were following the Colt at the time of the crash because they wanted to speak to the driver.

The Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) said it is also investigating the incident.
