Violence has broken out in North Belfast after reports of a young woman being knocked down by a car and a police officer being attacked.

Police said the driver of the car  which allegedly hit the girl was arrested.

The Woodvale Road area of Belfast is currently the scene of a stand-off between loyalist and nationalist protesters.

Reports indicate that the Orange Order were pelted with bottle and bricks during today’s parades in Belfast.

The incidents occurred as police prevented loyalists marching from the unionist Woodvale area toward the nationalist Ardoyne
