An Irish man has been killed after part of a crane fell on him in New York.

The man, named as Trevor Molloy, was a 40-year-old man who owned a construction business that operated in Limerick and New York.

The incident happened at 219 East 44th Street in Manhattan just before midday on Friday.

The New York Police Department pronounced him dead at the scene and they have launched an investigation into how the accident happened.

It is reported on Independent.ie that Loftus was married and was the father of two children.

“He has been living in New York for a couple of years, but he recently bought a pub at Neville’s Cross, Kilfinny, in Limerick” one local told Independent.ie.

“He had started renovating with a view to returning home permanently.

“His wife and kids live in Ireland. He flew back to New York on Thursday morning having visited his family in Limerick.

“It’s terribly tragic because his child is making his communion in two weeks time.”
