Irish couple scoops £4m on a scratchcard

A County Armagh couple will tonight be enjoying a scratchcard win - all £4m (€5.35m) of it!

The couple scooped the prize from a special National Lottery scratch card which had four £4m jackpots to give away.

It is highly unusual for such a large sum of money to be won on a scratchcard in Northern Ireland.

Back in September of last year a County Down man won £1m after buying a £5 scratchcard at Tesco Knocknagoney. - just a quarter of the latest win.

At the time, 35-year-old winner Martin McKenna said: "I always wanted to own a Volkswagen.

"I want to buy a new house, clear my debts and treat my family and friends."

This week's National Lottery draw sees a record £57.8m up for grabs after 13 consecutive rollovers.

Under National Lottery rules, that means this week's lottery must be won.

And if nobody gets six numbers, the jackpot will drop down to the next tier, where five numbers and the bonus ball will take the jackpot.
