A 58-year-old Irish nun has been rescued after spending three days trapped in a lift in Rome.

The nun was staying in the Marist Sister House in the Italian capital when a power cut struck the building.

Unfortunately for her and a 68-year-old nun from New Zealand, it happened when they were in the lift. They shouted for help but the building was already empty for the weekend.

It wasn't until a cleaner alerted the police this morning that the women were rescued, according to the BBC.

The women had to be treated for dehydration as they had no food or water for the entire three-day ordeal, and they didn't have mobile phones to call for help either.

The nuns also told Italian paper Il Messaggero tbhat they 'prayed so much' during the difficult weekend they endured.
