Hundreds evacuated from IKEA after false alarm

A false alarm at an IKEA store in Dublin this afternoon saw hundreds of shoppers evacuated from the building as a precaution.

Shoppers in Ballymun took to Twitter to say that they had been told to leave, with reports that there was a smell of burning.

‘Ikea Dublin evacuated this afternoon! Lucky escape - I hadn't bought anything yet! Tweeted one.

There were reports of a technical problem with the building.

‘Just been evacuated from IKEA due to 'technical difficulties on the premises'. Smell of burning in the air’ added another.

Shortly afterwards, people were told that they can return to the store and that it was a false alarm.
