Higgins' tribute to 'giant' of global politics sparks row
President Michael D Higgins is under fire after his glowing tribute to Cuban leader Fidel Castro who has died at the age of 90.
He paid a fond farewell to the socialist revolutionary Castro, despite his track record of jailing and executing political opponents.
The gushing statement was branded “offensive” by Senator Ronan Mullin who accused the President of using his office to air his personal views.
Senator Mullen attacked the tribute by the President to a man he said many Irish people would regard as “repugnant.”
