Heavy rain leads to weather warning across the country

Heavy rain across the country has led to a weather warning being issued by Met Éíreann.

A Status Yellow rainfall warning has been released for Leinster, Connacht as well as counties Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal.

It will be very wet in many areas today. Gardaí in Monaghan have said that there has been heavy rainfall in the county overnight and drivers are urged to drive with caution.

Intense or thundery downpours are expected at times, especially in eastern areas and later in northern counties with local spot flooding.

Showers will spread widely across Munster this morning and gradually extend into parts of south Connacht and parts of south Leinster.

The heavy rain will gradually become confined to Ulster during the evening but some very heavy falls are likely in parts of east Ulster.

Gale warnings have also been issued.

ESB have asked that people who may have lost power to contact 1850372999.
