Gardaí investigate grisly discovery of decomposed body in West Cork
Gardaí were conducting door to door inquiries with neighbours and local landowners in West Cork last night following the grisly discovery of the decomposed body of a man.
Gardai said they were keeping an open mind about the circumstances surrounding the death of the man who was in his late 60s.
His body was discovered in a semi-derelict property in a rural area outside Dunmanway.
There had been some local concern for the welfare of the man, who was a foreign national who had been living in the area for some time.
When the authorities were alerted gardai conducted several searches that resulted in the grim discovery yesterday morning.
The State Pathologist's Office was notified and a full post mortem examination will now be conducted at Cork University Hospital (CUH) by Assistant State Pathologist Dr Margaret Bolster.
Garda sources stressed that the nature of their investigation will be determined by the findings of the post mortem examination.
