Gardai continue investigations into death of boy (13) after horror road crash

Gardai are continuing investigations into the death of a 13-year-old boy after a horror road crash yesterday morning.

Tommy Wall from Greenhills Road, Tallaght, and a man (33) had been camping in Annamoe, Co Wicklow overnight before setting off for an early morning drive.

However the car they were travelling in left the R755 and collided with a ditch at 6.40am.

The youth and the driver managed to walk away from the crash. They walked several kilometres in the direction of Roundwood before a passerby became concerned for their welfare.

Gardaí confirmed that the teen "deteriorated and he died on route to Loughlinstown Hospital".

The male driver of the car was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and brought to Wicklow Garda Station. He appeared before Bray District Court this afternoon where he was released on bail.

A full post-mortemwas carried out on the of Tommy Wall yesterday and the results showed that he died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.

The road between Roundwood and Annamoe was closed yesterday facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision investigators.

Gardaí in Roundwood are investigating the incident.

Officers have appealed to anyone who travelled this road prior to 6.40am this morning in either direction and who may have seen the collision or observed or passed the two males walking the road to contact the Gardai at Wicklow on 0404 – 60140, The Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
