Four inmates of the National Youth Detention Centre in north County Dublin are on the run after escaping last night.

The four jumped over a wall at around 9.30pm.

One of them was later returned to the centre in Oberstown but the other three are still at large.

The youths who escaped were aged 16 and 17.

According to mirror.ie, the centre has seen a large increase in inmates following the closure of the St Patrick’s ‘juvenile’ wing of Mountjoy Prison.

It is the third escape from the detention centre in recent months.

In May four others broke out from the centre but were recaptured.

Two weeks previously another two broke out. They were also recaptured.
