Four men arrested after suspect device discovered
Gardai have arrested four men following the discovery of suspected improvised explosive device in a vehicle in Longford.
The operation, part of ongoing investigations into dissident republican activity, saw the discovery of a suspected improvised explosive device in a vehicle on the R392 at Forgney, Close to Ballymahon County Longford.
Four men,aged from their 20s to their 40s, have been arrested and are currently being detained at Garda Stations in County Longford under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939 as amended.
The scene was preserved and a safety cordon put in place. The R392 was closed at Forgney to facilitate the Army Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit who attended the scene.
The scene was later declared safe and the road reopened.
A house that was searched in a follow up search has been preserved for a technical examination.
