A four-man death squad burst into the home of Eddie Hutch Snr to carry out the killing, according to sources.

Hutch, who was in his 50s, was shot a number of times in his house on Poplar Row this evening.

Gardaí have sealed off the scene for technical examination.  Diversions are in place.

A silver, 04-D BMW was found burnt out on Lyndsay Road in Ballybough in north Dublin.

The shooting occurred despite a heavy garda presence on the streets of Dublin on Monday.

The gang managed to avoid checkpoints located around the city.

The shooting happened around 7.45pm at the property in the Ballybough area.

Eddie Hutch Snr is a convicted fraudster. One of his five sons, drug dealer Christoper ‘Bouncer’ Hutch, died from a heroin overdose in 2003.

While it is unclear at this stage who carried the latest the attack it is likely to be retaliation for the murder of David Byrne at the Regency Hotel in Dublin on Friday.
