Female prisoner escapes from custody before court hearing

A female prisoner is on the run tonight after escaping from custody at the Ennis Courthouse on Monday.

The woman, who is understood to be is 25-year-old Amanda Hayes according to reports by TheJournal, was due to face theft charges.

Gardai have been made aware of the escape but the woman has not yet been brought back into custody.

A spokesperson for the Irish Prison Service said that the matter will be investigated by the governor of the prison escort service.

“We can confirm that a prisoner has escaped from custody in Ennis today,” he said.

“The Gardai were notified and the matter will be investigated fully,” he added.
