Gardaí are investigating a fatal road traffic collision which occurred on the N60, Castlebar-Claremorris Road, near Breaffy Village, County Mayo this morning at approximately 3am.

A female pedestrian, aged 49, suffered fatal injuries when she was struck by a car. She was taken to Mayo General Hospital in Castlebar where she was later pronounced dead.

No other injuries were reported.

The scene is preserved and the road is currently closed to facilitate Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealling for witnesses to the collision or anyone who was travelling on the N60 near Breaffy Village between 2.45am and 3am on the 16th May 2015 to contact them at Castlebar Garda Station on 094 9038200, The Garda Confidential Line 1800 666111 or any Garda Station.
