Dublin’s first ever Ironman race is underway

Competitors from all cross the world are in the middle of Dublin’s first ever Ironman race that is underway today.

The 2,500 athletes will swim, cycle and run the course that starts in Dun Laoghaire and finishes in the Phoenix Park.

Thousands of people  are lining out along the route to cheer on the athletes.

The swim takes place in Scotsman’s Bay, Dun Laoghaire.

The bike course is a 100km loop from Dun Laoghaire, through the city centre and Pheonix Park taking in Dunboyne, Kilcock and Maynooth.

The cyclists will then return to the Pheonix Park where the run will then take place.

Traffic restrictions will be in place across many parts of the city.

All Dublin city bridges over the Liffey will be closed from 7am until 10.15am.
