Locals residents, J1 students and Irish-American groups have been paying their respects to the six victims of the Berkeley balcony collapse.

By 6pm Irish time the first mementos were being laid outside the Library Gardens building on Ketteridge Street in Berkeley and all the way up until darkness hit the west coast last night, a steady stream of mourners arrived at the scene.

Many J1 students turned up in GAA jerseys as a sign of solidarity with the six young Irish people who died in the tragedy; Ashley Donohoe (22), Olivia Burke (21), Eoin Culligan (21), Niccolai Schuster (21), Lorcan Miller (21) and Eimear Walsh (21).

The memorial will surely continue to grow over the coming days as relatives begin to arrive in Berkeley from Ireland.
