The PSNI are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death 10-year-old boy in Newcastle, County Down.

The child collapsed yesterday at the Pleasurelands amusement centre in the holiday town.

The tragedy happened on Central Promenade.

The boy, from Lisburn, was said to have sustained a head injury.

Pleasureland amusement park was closed so that police could examine the scene.

Owner of the centre, Alfie Bell, said: "We closed the park out of respect, got everyone out and made sure there was room for everybody to get in and work on him and I think they kept working on him the whole way to the hospital.

"Our family are thinking of his parents and grandparents at this terrible time and send out sympathy to them.

"They seemed like a lovely family."
