Motorists warned over heavy fog which is causing flight delays

Motorists have been warned about their safety on the country's roads in the intense fog.

Visibility is low this morning, but it is expected to clear this morning.

Fog is also causing some flight delays at Dublin Airport and passengers are advised to check with their airline for the latest flight information.

Yesterday evening, flights destined for Dublin Airport were diverted to other airports due to a fog over the city.

There were five diversions in total to Cork and Belfast airports, Dublin Airport Authority confirmed.

These planes were refuelling this evening, a spokesperson said, and they will return to Dublin airport as soon as possible.

Forecaster Evelyn Cusack told Independent.ie: “It’s very humid air that’s coming up from the content. It's moist air passing over the sea and there’s a slight easterly wind so it’s sea fog that’s blowing in over Dublin."

During summer the land heats up and eventually burns the fog back to the coast. If people are planning on going sunbathing by the sea tomorrow, there could be fog."
