Motorists urged to take care as rainfall warning issued
Motorists are warned to take caution on the country's roads as heavy rain continues nationwide.
Met Éireann issued a rainfall warning for Cork and Kerry which is valid until 8pm tonight.
Elsewhere, the heavy rain and occasional fog is to clear eastwards this morning and brighten up gradually as the day continues.
However, there are more thundery downpours expected this afternoon with spot flooding and hail expected as well.
AA Roadwatch spokesperson Arwen Foley told RTE Radio One that motorists are being asked to exercise caution in the wet conditions.
"There is a rainfall warning for Cork and Kerry but there are wet roads everywhere, so care is needed," she said.
In Cork, the N20 has been closed both ways at Velvetstown in Buttevant following a crash and traffic is diverting via Doneraile.
While in Meath, a fall tree is partially blocking the Dunboyne/Dunshaughlin Road at Rathbeggan.
The unsettled weather is set to continue for Friday and the weekend, with a wet and blustery Friday night expected and more heavy rain forecast for Saturday.
