A man in his 20s became the third fatality on our roads in just over 24 hours following the deaths of a man and a woman in separate collisions.

Gardaí at Carrick-on-Shannon in County Leitrim are investigating the fatal road traffic collision, which occurred at approximately 3pm this afternoon.

The incident occurred between Fenagh and Ballinamore on the R202 when a car and a motorcycle were in collision.

The male motorcyclist - a man in his 20s - was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body has been removed to Sligo General Hospital. No other injuries were reported.

The road remains closed to facilitate a forensic collision investigation and local diversions are in place.
