Motorcycle ace Ryan Farquhar seriously injured in Irish road race

Motorcycle racing superstar Ryan Farquhar has been seriously injured after colliding with another rider during the world famous North West 200 race in Northern Ireland.

Farquhar collided with rider Dan Cooper last night on the third lap of the Supertwins race.

Cooper was taken to Coleraine hospital to be treated for shoulder injuries, while Farquhar was airlifted to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast to be treated for pelvis and chest injuries.

Farquhar has previously won five races at the North West 200.

The 40-year-old retired from road racing in 2012 after the death of his uncle, Trevor Ferguson, at the Manx Grand Prix in the Isle of Mann.

He returned to road racing in 2014.
