Met Eireann have issued a Status Yellow rain warning for parts of the country for today.

The forecasters have issued the alert for counties Wicklow, Donegal, Galway, Mayo, Cork and Kerry.

Met Eireann say that heavy rain over the course of the day will hit these counties, with accumulations of up to 30mm on higher ground.

All of the country will be very wet and windy today but the wind and rain will ease in the evening.

The weekend will see more of the same with rain blanketing the country on Saturday afternoon.

Sunday will see more sporadic rain and the temperatures will be milder, averaging between 11 and 13 degrees in the east.

And the long-term out look for next week suggests a mix of sunshine and showers, with some of the rainfall heavy and thundery.
