Met Eireann have issued a Yellow Weather warning for the east coast of Ireland today.

Dublin, Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow and Waterford, plus Cork and Tipperary have been included in the rain warning issued this morning.

Met Eireann say that 25 to 35 mm of rain will fall on those counties with possibly up to 40 mm along parts of the south coast.

The forecasters say the level of rain will lead to localised flooding and there is a threat of sleet in some parts later tonight.

It will dry up overnight but more rain is expected to spread from the west tomorrow afternoon, eventually covering the entire country while the strong winds are also due to return, with severe gusts around the coast.

And the outlook for the weekend is for yet more rain, and flooding, with only the early parts of Sunday expected to be free from rain.
