Very high winds are expected in parts of the country today so Met Eireann have issued a Status Yellow warning.

The warning came into effect at 9am this morning for counties Donegal, Galway, Mayo and Sligo.

The forecasters warn that until 4pm this afternoon southerly gusts will hit those counties, turning westerly as the day goes on.

Winds will increase in speed from 45kph up to 60kph as the afternoon progresses with gusts hitting 90kph at times.

The Status Yellow is the lowest level of warning issued by Met Eireann.

The rest of the country can expect blustery, showery weather for the day though it will remain mild for the time of year with temperatures between 13 and 15 degrees.
