McGregor named on Time Magazine’s top 100 list
UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor is one of Time magazine’s 100 most influential people for 2017.
The 28-year-old from Crumlin, who has taken the world of mixed martial arts by storm in recent years, was in the top spot in the Pioneer category, alongside the likes of actor/director Jordan Peele, musician Chance The Rapper and Ivanka Trump.
The only other athletes to make the list were NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick, NBA champion LeBron James, and Barcelona and Brazil footballer Neymar.
Each of the 100 people on the list had a bio written by a friend, and McGregor’s was penned by Arnold Schwarzenegger.
“Conor McGregor is more than a fighter, more than an athlete, more than a champion – although, as the first person in the history of the Ultimate Fighting Championship to hold titles in two weight divisions at once, he is clearly all of those things,” he wrote.
