Man suffers serious hand injuries in violent attack in west Dublin

A man was rushed to hospital after suffering serious hand injuries in an assault on Wednesday evening.

The victim, who is in his 20s, was set upon and assaulted in Mill Lane, Palmerstown in West Dublin at around 5pm.

It is believed that the man was attacked with a weapon, possibly a hatchet, during the sustained attack.

Gardaí believe that at one point he attempted to protect his face but was struck in the hands with the weapon.

He also suffered head injuries in the assault.

Emergency services were called to the scene and the man was taken by ambulance to Tallaght Hospital.

Gardaí arrived after the victim was brought to hospital.

No arrests have been made and gardaí in Clondalkin are investigating the incident.
