A man has died following a serious assault in the capital this evening.

The man, who is believed to be in his 40s, was hospitalised following the attack in Tallaght. 

He was rushed to Tallaght Hospital where he was being treated for serious injuries.

However, he was pronounced dead a short time later. 

Gardai in Tallaght are investigating the incident, which occurred at Avonbeg Gardens.

It is believed a row broke out at approximately 5.30pm this evening which involved a number of people.

The man received multiple blows during the incident and was fatally injured. 

The scene is currently preserved. No arrests have been made, authorities said.
